There are IKEA hacks, and then there are wholly unrecognizable transformations – and the revolutionary handiwork of Aberdeen-dependent designer Malcolm Begg undoubtedly falls into the latter group.
Armed with the purely natural hues of his IKEA TORHAMN kitchen area models and a head comprehensive of inspiration from some of the most prestigious companies in the marketplace, Malcolm remodeled the kitchen area in this mid-nineteenth century household into a charming English-style sanctuary.
In discussion with Livingetc, Malcolm, who shares his design and style projects at @designsixtynine, revealed that the job arrived after a small but highly-priced extension on his period property. Malcolm and his partner Brian ended up motivated by the seem of other kitchens that ended up outside of their price tag vary, and so, the TORHAMN transformation started.

‘I made a decision to create the search making use of IKEA models and introducing moldings,’ Malcolm shares.
‘We opted for the TORHAMN kitchen area as it offered easy but deep framing that we could adapt. I additional very simple angled wooden trim to the doorways and a picket cornice at the top. The cupboards have been divided with 200mm broad timber to create framing and a simplified kickboard for that bespoke search.’

Malcolm also utilised the upper cabinets to strategically hide the fewer aesthetic characteristics, which include the boiler. He custom-made the units with wooden strips applied the glass, which held his kitchen searching uniform, distinct, and oh so classy.

‘The hood is IKEA with a personalized chimney created from Plywood and painted to tie in. The kitchen area sink device was produced using an IKEA wall device which I framed out to generate additional width, incorporating legs from leftover timber. The kitchen models ended up painted in Valspar Clay Figurine,’ Malcolm shares.

Following the results of their TORHAMN transformation, they made the decision to introduce a different IKEA makeover into their space – in the form of a MALSJO cupboard. Malcolm explains how the dresser arrived from two models from the MALSJO range, which have been screwed together and painted.

‘This was my husband or wife Brian’s thought, which has genuinely labored. We screwed it to the wall for safety,’ Malcolm says.
